Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

After months of rumours and leaks, Activision and Infinity Ward have officially announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The game is set to launch on October 23, 2026, with Campaign Early Access starting on October 16 for eligible editions. Built only for current-generation platforms, the latest entry promises a bigger campaign, improved multiplayer, and the return of the popular DMZ mode. It also continues the rebooted Modern Warfare storyline with a brand-new global conflict.

Modern Warfare 4 takes players into a new global war

The story follows the events of Modern Warfare III and focuses on a major conflict after North Korea invades South Korea. Players will experience the campaign through different characters, including South Korean soldiers and Captain Price. The story takes players to several locations around the world, including Korea, New York, Paris, and Mumbai, with missions ranging from large scale battles to tactical operations.

Launch date, platforms, and campaign early access

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will release on October 23, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Players who pre-order eligible editions can start the campaign a week early on October 16. The game will not be released on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, allowing the developers to focus on better graphics, larger maps, and smoother performance on newer hardware.

Multiplayer gets upgrades as DMZ returns

Along with the campaign, Infinity Ward has confirmed improvements to multiplayer with smoother movement, better gunplay, and more responsive controls. The fan-favourite DMZ extraction mode is also making a comeback with new missions, larger areas to explore, and changing objectives that offer a fresh experience for solo players and squads.

Why Modern Warfare 4 could be a major release for the series

Modern Warfare 4 is shaping up to be one of the biggest Call of Duty games in recent years. It is the first Modern Warfare title made only for current-generation consoles and also marks the franchise's return to Nintendo hardware with the Switch 2. With a larger campaign, updated gameplay, and modern visuals, Infinity Ward is aiming to deliver a fresh experience while keeping the core Call of Duty action that fans enjoy.
