Redmi 17 5G India Launch: 7,900mAh Battery And Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 Set To Raise The Bar

The Redmi 17 5G will launch in India on September 3, 2026, at 12 PM IST. Xiaomi has confirmed availability through Amazon, its website and retail stores, but has not revealed the India price or memory variants yet.

This also means reports suggesting a fixed India price should be treated cautiously. Xiaomi is yet to officially disclose whether the Indian model will follow the global model's storage options.

The biggest change is the 7,900mAh battery, which gives the Redmi 17 5G a substantial endurance advantage on paper. The phone also supports reverse wired charging, allowing it to act as a power source for smaller devices.

Interestingly, this battery is larger than the 7,500mAh unit offered on the global Redmi 17 5G. That makes the Indian version more than a straightforward regional launch and gives Xiaomi a stronger battery-focused selling point.

The Redmi 17 5G will use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 platform and a 6.9-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The rear camera setup includes a 50MP main sensor, while an 8MP camera is expected at the front.

One important clarification: Redmi 17 5G will not be India's first Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 smartphone. The POCO M8x 5G has already launched with the same chipset. This makes Redmi's bigger battery, rather than the processor alone, a more important differentiator.

The phone will arrive in Eternal Orange, Endless Blue and Absolute Black, with a vegan-leather-style finish highlighted in Redmi's India communication. Xiaomi's global model runs Android 16-based HyperOS 3, while India-specific software and update details should be confirmed at launch.

For buyers, the biggest unanswered questions are now the Indian price, RAM and storage configurations and the final charging specifications. Those details could decide whether the Redmi 17 5G becomes a strong value option when it officially arrives next week.
