HONOR Robot Phone brings a 200MP robotic gimbal, dual 200MP cameras, ARRI cinema tools and a 7,060mAh battery, but Indian buyers still await official launch and pricing.
HONOR has turned its Robot Phone concept into a commercial smartphone, but Indian consumers cannot officially buy it yet. Launched in China on August 12, the phone combines a moving 4 DoF titanium gimbal with a 200MP main camera, 200MP periscope telephoto, ARRI imaging tools and AI powered subject tracking. For India, the bigger question is not just how much this unusual phone could cost, but whether HONOR will bring its most ambitious camera hardware to the market at all.
The Robot Phone starts at CNY 9,999 for 12GB RAM and 512GB storage, while the 16GB + 1TB variant costs CNY 12,999 in China. These figures translate to roughly ₹1.2 lakh and ₹1.6 lakh, but they are only currency conversions and should not be treated as Indian prices. HONOR has not announced an India launch date or official India price.
That makes availability the biggest hurdle for Indian buyers. If HONOR eventually brings it here, the phone would enter a premium segment where its moving camera, rather than conventional flagship specifications, would have to justify the price.
The headline camera is a 200MP Agile Gimbal Main Camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor and f/1.6 aperture. A second 200MP periscope camera with 2.7x optical zoom and a 50MP ultra-wide camera complete the rear setup.
But the more interesting feature is movement. The 4 DoF mechanism allows the camera to physically pan, tilt, rotate and track subjects. For Indian creators making reels, wedding videos, travel clips and livestreams, this could reduce the need for a separate gimbal or someone constantly holding the camera.
HONOR has partnered with ARRI to bring LogC3, ARRI Wide Gamut 3 and ARRI Looks to the phone. The camera can record 10 bit LogC3 footage, while HONOR's imaging pipeline is designed to retain more information for editing and colour grading.
AI Object Tracking and AI SpinShot add another layer, allowing the camera to follow subjects and create automated 90 degree and 180-degree movements. This makes the Robot Phone less like a conventional cameraphone and more like a compact filming tool.
The camera is supported by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a 6.31-inch OLED display with up to 120Hz refresh rate and a 7,060mAh silicon carbon battery. Charging reaches 120W wired and 50W wireless. The phone weighs around 248 grams and measures about 9.6mm thick.
For India, however, the most important takeaway is simple: there is no confirmed India launch yet. Until HONOR announces local availability, the Robot Phone remains an intriguing China-exclusive showcase of where smartphone cameras could be heading rather than an option Indian consumers can officially purchase.
