From Kitchen To Skin: I Tried This Simple DIY Potato Face Mask For Glowing Skin
DIY Potato Face Mask

Last Saturday, I had a family function, which was a bit hard to miss, and many of us girls also thought that I could not go with such a dull and tanned face. Like everyone else, I also wanted my face and skin to look healthier and brighter, which got lost somewhere in my busy schedule.

The previous day, which was basically Friday night, while I was discussing with my mother regarding my skin issues, she advised me on something that she has been following for several years which includes making my own face pack at home with just kitchen ingredients such as potato juice, besan, and honey.

Now, to be completely frank with you, I actually felt that nothing much could go wrong in using this pack since this is not the first time that I am using it and I have applied this pack quite a few times in the past and really liked the results that gave me. But skincare is always very different for everyone and hence the effects would differ for different skin types.

Ingredients To Be Used

To make this DIY face mask, you are supposed to use just three simple ingredients that are easily available in your kitchen, which means you do not have to rush to the market for this:

  • 2 tablespoons of fresh potato juice
  • 1 tablespoon of besan (gram flour)
  • 1 teaspoon of honey

How To Prepare This DIY Face Mask?

The process of making this homemade face mask is genuinely very easy as it requires just simple three main ingredients that can easily be found in our kitchens.

  • The first and foremost step that you need to perform is to take a fresh potato not a rotten one and wash it under tap water, then grate the raw potato with the help of a grater, and when perfectly grated you need to squeeze out the juice in a bowl from the grated potato.
  • The second step which comes after this is to add besan or gram flour in the juice, I will advise you to mix small quantity of besan in it so that you do not end up making the paste very thick.
  • Then add 1 teaspoon of honey to the bowl, and make sure that you do not add a lot of honey as that will make the paste very sticky.
  • Now mix all the ingredients very well and make sure that you get a uniform paste after combining all the ingredients.

Note: If your paste has become very thick then, you can add either milk or rosewater to the paste to balance out its consistency. And, if your paste is to runny, then you are supposed to add more besan to make it even.

How To Apply?

  • As any other skincare process or routine, you need to completely wash and clean your face so that all excess dirt and oil is removed from your skin, only after which the result can come out more clearly.
  • When you have washed your face and dried it up, you need to spread a fine and even layer across the face, while making sure that you have not covered your eyes and lips as that are sensitive areas.
  • Then you need to leave that layer on your face for about 15-20 minutes until it completely dries.
  • Once dried completely, you need to damp both your face and hands a little and then you have to scrub the mask gently and then you can rinse your face with normal tap water. Make sure you do not apply any soap or cleaner for washing the mask off.
  • After cleaning out the mask you should apply face moisturiser to soften your skin

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

Before trying this DIY face mask, it is advisable to conduct a patch test on your skin to ensure that there are no reactions within or after 24 hours. If you have a very sensitive skin or are reactive to any of the ingredients used in the face mask, you should simply avoid using it, or first consult with your dermat regarding this.

Along with this, it is very important to keep in mind that such homemade face masks are not a hard and fast rule to brighten skin or remove tan for everyone. My experience may be different from yours and results can vary depending on your skin type and many other existing factors.

Why This DIY Is Worth Trying Again?

The best part about this face mask is that how easy it is to make with ingredients already and very easily available at home.

Potato juice is commonly used in several traditional remedies for brighter looking skin, whereas besan is known for its helping nature with gentle cleansing, and honey is used to keep the mix from feeling too drying.

After using it for some time now, my skin felt clean, looked fresh, and the dullness from tanning appears to be reducing. However, the effect was temporary but gave a noticeable glow before the function. And using this regularly can certainly result in long-term glow.

Skincare results are always personal, so expectations should stay realistic, and mind that it is not meant for daily use, but can be used as an occasional step when skin needs quick refreshment.

FAQ's

  • How often can this face mask be used?
Use this mask 1 to 2 times a week only, as daily use can make skin dry. For oily skin you should use it twice a week, and for dry skin use it once in 10 days. Before applying anything on your face always do a patch test first, and after the mask, use moisturizer.
  • Can this mask remove tan and dark spots fully?
No, it cannot remove tan or dark spots fully, as it only makes skin look fresh and less dull for some time. However, potato juice and besan can certainly give a clean look. For full tan removal, use sunscreen daily and talk to a skin doctor.
