Huawei Mate XT 2 India Launch

Huawei is preparing to take its tri-fold phone strategy a step further with the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design. The second generation foldable will debut in China on September 7 as part of Huawei’s HarmonyOS 7 and Mate XT 2 All Scenario New Product Launch Event. The company has already revealed its new wing shaped folding design, colour options and memory variants. More importantly, Huawei is turning privacy into a headline feature, with a hardware-level anti-peeping display that can be activated with a double tap.

Huawei Mate XT 2 Price And Launch

Huawei will launch the Mate XT 2 in China on September 7 at 2:30pm local time, which is 12 noon in India. The company has not announced the China price yet, while an India launch date is also unavailable. Therefore, the expected Indian price should not be treated as official.

Huawei has already started reservations in China. The listed versions include 16GB+512GB and 16GB+1TB, with a special 1TB privacy-screen version. A top end 16GB+2TB version with stylus support has also emerged through pre launch information. The phone will come in Dark Black, Pure White and Jin Zi finishes.

The Big Change Is Hidden In The Folding Design

The Mate XT 2 moves away from the original Mate XT’s outward facing Z-shaped arrangement. Its new wing-shaped inward-folding structure allows the flexible main panel to sit inside when the phone is closed, giving it better protection from everyday exposure. Huawei is also claiming a new hinge design and improved resistance to accidental drops.

When fully opened, the device is expected to deliver a tablet sized OLED experience, with reports pointing to a 10.2 inch class panel and 120Hz refresh rate. Huawei has also claimed that the unfolded phone is just 3.5mm thick, making thinness another major part of its launch pitch.

Huawei Is Making Privacy A Major Selling Point

One of the most interesting Mate XT 2 additions is not another camera or processor upgrade. Huawei has previewed a hardware level Privacy Display, designed to keep the screen clear for the person looking directly at it while restricting visibility from wider angles. The feature can reportedly be switched on from the phone’s controls and activated using a double tap on the outer screen.

This could be particularly useful for a tri-fold phone because its large screen is more exposed to people sitting nearby on trains, flights and in public places. Huawei is effectively trying to solve one of the practical problems created by giving users a much larger display.

What To Expect From The September 7 Event?

The September 7 presentation is shaping up to be more than a Mate XT 2 launch. Huawei is branding it around HarmonyOS 7 and an all-scenario product event, with the Mate XT 2 expected to headline the show. The MatePad Air 2026 has also been confirmed for the event, while Huawei’s Pura X View could join the lineup.

Under the hood, reports point to a next-generation Kirin chipset, around 6,000mAh battery, upgraded triple cameras and support for high-end storage configurations. However, these details remain unconfirmed until Huawei takes the stage.

For Indian buyers, the key takeaway is simple: the Mate XT 2 is confirmed for China, not India. If Huawei follows its previous Mate XT strategy, a wider launch could happen later, but there is currently no official Indian date or price.
