From Kitchen to Your Skin by Bhumika: 5 DIY Coffee Masks

Last Monday I came with my weekend diaries, where I shared my experience of Roastry Coffee House and I announced to all of you how much I love coffee. I mean this much: that apart from drinking, I also included it in my skincare routine. When I first saw the coffee sitting on my shelf, the first thought was, What if I applied it to my face? I did my research, but the real thing is often shown with the practical use. So guess what? I made a simple mask by mixing coffee with a few drops of water and applied it to my face. And what happened next? Want to know? Let's move forward with this experience together

First of All, Let’s Understand Why I Chose this Mask

Before trying it by myself, obviously, I researched it a little and learned that the coffee is packed with antioxidants and has natural exfoliating properties. So it made me curious to try this as I was also dealing with dull skin and uneven texture. Some of the benefits that I prayed for while applying this DIY mask are:

  • Bright Skin
  • Even texture
  • Glowing complexion
  • Gentle exfoliation without any chemical

How Did I Make This DIY Mask at Home?

Here I am sharing the exact recipe with you that I made with the simple ingredients that maybe are available in your kitchen.

  • 1 tablespoon coffee powder
  • Few Drops of Water

What Else Can You Add?

As I mentioned in the title, I will be sharing the 5 DIY coffee face masks with you. How can I leave it in between? By adding additional ingredients to coffee, you can make different masks that give different benefits to your skin.

  • You can also add milk in place of water or add yoghurt for soothing and brightening skin
  • If you have dry skin, then you can add honey or coconut oil drops for hydration, but skip it for oily skin.
  • Use the aloe vera gel for its calming effect, especially on irritated and sensitive skin.
  • Mix the coffee powder with a pinch of turmeric and a tablespoon of lemon juice for tan removal, but if you have sensitive skin, avoid lemon juice.
  • For oily and acne-prone skin, add multani mitti with rose water to the coffee powder.

Just add the ingredients that you want to use with your coffee mask, just to get their benefits as mentioned above.

Bonus tip: Make sure the consistency is not too watery or too thick so that it stays on your skin.

The Right Way to Apply the Coffee Face Mask

  • Start by washing your face with a gentle cleanser so that no dirt gets absorbed into your skin with the face mask.
  • Pat the skin dry with a clean towel
  • Then apply the mask evenly using fingers or brush
  • Massage this face mask in circular motions for 1–2 minutes for exfoliation
  • Let it sit on your skin for 15–20 minutes

Tip: Avoid the eye area because the skin there is sensitive.

How Long to Keep this Mask on your Face?

Let this mask sit on your face for 15-20 minutes. I personally use this mask on my face twice a week and rinse it out with normal or lukewarm water while gently massaging my skin. But don't forget to apply moisturizer after washing your face, no matter how dry or oily it is, as it helps in locking in hydration that gets absorbed by the coffee.

Visible Effects After Using this Coffee Mask Regularly

After using this DIY coffee face mask for a few weeks, here are the aftereffects that you will definitely get to see, as I personally felt this difference on my skin.

  • My skin looks brighter as this exfoliates the dull skin and makes it look fresher
  • Smooth skin texture by removing dead skin cells.
  • Reduced Puffiness
  • Coffee masks include some of the finely ground coffee grains that also act as a scrub to your face and improve the blood circulation so that it looks less puffy and swollen.

Few Things to Take Care of Before Applying this Mask

Even though it is a natural DIY skin care hack, there are a few things that you should be careful about.

  • Do apply a patch test before applying to the whole face, as some skin may get a reaction from using coffee
  • Avoid using on sensitive skin with wounded pimples or acne.
  • Don't use more than 3 times a week
  • Always moisturize after washing your face.

Use this DIY coffee mask to get the real glow and cleansing effects on your skin without putting too much effort into expensive skin care products. As most of the items are easily available on your kitchen shelf, it is affordable, quick to apply and gives visible results without any harmful chemical effects.

  • Should I apply coffee to my face twice a day?
Applying coffee once a day is okay, but twice is usually not recommended, as it can strip your skin barrier and cause irritation.
